Poeticchef Karim Anderson

Growing up, my mother Candy inspired me to cook by watching her in the kitchen and it was amazing. She would always call me to help her prepare meals or just to watch. She was my biggest influence.

As a child, I traveled to Trinidad to visit my aunt Peggy when my mother needed help at home. My aunt also made a great impression as she showed me the importance of being a precise and efficient cook as a child. In the beginning, I started my culinary career experimenting with pancakes, french toast and our family favorite, corned beef and rice. It was at that point, I realized I wanted to be a chef and open a restaurant one day. I’ve always wanted to specialize in Caribbean Soul food.

Working in this industry, I meet many different people curating menus and coordinating special events. These experiences have taught me to appreciate and celebrate every day as I travel the world doing what I love, loving what I do and to always make time to stop and live in the moment.

Here’s to food, poetry and soul.

Inhale….exhale. Let’s go!
